President Muhammadu Buhari has presented a merit award to Mr. Ikenna Nweke, a student studying for his Ph.D. in Japan.
Ikenna, who hails from Imo State, was honoured with the Public Service Integrity Awards, for recovering an undisclosed huge amount of money in a wallet, in faraway Japan and returning it to the government. And particularly, for also declining 10% of the money found, which was offered to him as reward.
Speaking at the occasion of the award presentation, held at the 3rd National Summit on Diminishing Corruption in the Public Sector, which was put together by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission ( ICPC ), in Abuja, the President said Ikenna has done the country proud by displaying ‘’ traditional Nigerian beliefs of honesty, and integrity…’’
He further declared him ICPC Student Anti-Corruption Volunteer Icon
Also recognized was Mr. Muhammad Tukur Ahmad, Assistant Commandant of the Narcotics Department, National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), for his refusal to accept a bribe of $ 24,500 (#10,020,500) to overlook a drug deal.
And Mr. Nelson Okoronkwo, Deputy-Director, Legal, Federal Ministry of Information on Culture; for recovering billions of Naira from illegal schemes in the Agricultural Sector, in silos and fertilizer projects.
