The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami says plans have been concluded to deploy virtual court facilities at the Kuje Correctional Centre, Abuja.

Dr. Umar Jibrilu Gwandu, Special Assistant to the Attorney General of the Federation AGF on Media and Public Relations, made this public in Abuja on Sunday, December 5, 2021

The Acting Director of the Administration of Criminal Justice Reform Department of the Federal Ministry of Justice, Mrs Leticia Ayoola-Daniels, said the move is the result of the precarious state of correctional centres in Nigeria and the urgent need to fast track their decongestion.

This development is coming on the heels of recent commitments to support Nigeria with virtual court facilities in Correctional centres across the country, given by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Japan.

According to Ayoola-Daniels, the donor bodies will be the financiers of the virtual court facilities at the Kuje Correctional centre.

She said, “The successes recorded by the Presidential Committee on Correctional Reform and Decongestion and indeed the Federal Ministry of Justice earned Nigeria the goodwill to receive support and sponsorship from development partners and the international community.”
