The Federal Government has emphasized that at the moment, there are no plans to restrict foreigners from coming into Nigeria.
Health Minister, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, who stated this on a Channels Television programme on Sunday night, also claimed that most of the in-bound passengers that tested positive for COVID-19 were from the United Kingdom.
“At the moment we have no plans restricting anybody coming from another country,” Ehanire said.
The Minister also said even the World Health Organisation (WHO) had said recently that countries should focus more on working together, rather than shutting borders.
“I believe countries should come together to take a common approach and that includes the UK and other countries contemplating a red list,” Ehanire added.
In the meantime, the British High Commission has suspended visitor visa applications from all red list countries, including Nigeria.
This was announced in a statement hours after the UK added Nigeria to its travel red list as a result of concerns over discovering 21 cases of the Omicron COVID variant which were linked to Nigeria.
