The Imo State Police Command has warded off, fought off a planned attack at Ideato South Police Station, in the state, by unknown armed men.
The unknown gunmen who came in their numbers had staged an attack at the officers, shooting sporadically and throwing Improvised Explosive Devices (I.E.D) into the station.
In a statement by Michael Abattam, the Command’s Public relations officer, the hoodlums were repelled by the Command’s tactical teams and the police operatives of the division.
He revealed further that officers had gallantly engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel and were overwhelmed by the superior fire-power of the operatives resulting in several of them fleeing into the bush with various degrees of bullet injuries.
However, no life or arms was lost and the detonated Improvised Explosive Devices (I.E.D) only caused minimal damage.
Imo and other states in the South-east have witnessed several attacks on the police and other public institutions.
Also recall that the Governor of the state, Senator Hope Uzodimma had pledged to name those he claimed were sponsors of the insecurity in the state, but backtracked, saying he would rather leave security agencies “to do their work” and prosecute those found culpable.
