Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, says he has informed President Muhammadu Buhari of his intentions to contest in the presidential election in 2023.
Tinubu, who revealed this to state house correspondents after a meeting with the head of state at the Aso Villa in Abuja, disclosed that although he is yet to formally inform Nigerians of this interest, President Buhari, being a democrat, has allowed him pursue his life-long political ambition.
“I’ve informed the President of my intention, but I have not informed Nigerians yet. I’m still consulting. And I have no problem consulting. And I’ve not set a parameter of limitation to the extent of how many people I will consult”, the APC chieftain said.
The APC leader and former governor of Lagos State further stressed that he has the confidence, vision, and capacity to build on the foundation laid by President Buhari and turn around the fortunes of the country.
Responding to what he feels about being in the presidential race with the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, who has also been tipped to succeed the President, he declined giving definite responses stating he would not speak about any individuals.
He insisted that the drift and failures of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were being corrected by the present administration through the achievment of certain infrastructural developments across the nation.
Tinubu also gave assurance that the ruling party’s would still hold it’s national convention, although the President, as head of the party, is yet to decide if it will be convened next month.
