Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has acknowledged that insecurity is grossly affecting the turnout for voters registration in the state ahead of the 2023 General elections.

Chief Press Secretary, Oguwike Nwachuku, revealed in a press release that the governor made this known while receiving the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner for Imo, Francis Ezeonu, and his team, at the Government House, Owerri., the state capital.

Governor Uzodinma who commended the Commission for creating additional polling units across the country ahead of the 2023 general election, also stated that the conversion of the former voting points to polling units is “a good decision by INEC.“

He further thanked the INEC Chairman, Yakubu Mahmood, for what he described as “a wonderful job he is doing in Nigeria” and reiterated the willingness of his government to support INEC at the forthcoming elections.

In his response, Ezeonu,  called on the state government to assist in public sensitization and other activities, towards encouraging more registration of voters, considering how low the number of registrants in Imo was, as compared to data of voters’ registration in other states compiled by the INEC as of January 10.
