The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed relief materials to 2,900 flood/windstorm victims in Owerri North, Owerri West and Owerri Municipal councils of Imo State.
Acting Head, Imo / Abia Operations of NEMA, Ifeanyi Nnaji, led the donation of the items which included 300 bags of 10 kilograms of rice, 300 bags of 10 kilograms of beans, 250 bags of 10 kilograms of garri and 100 kegs of vegetable oil. Others were 700 pieces of mattress, 700 pieces of Mosquito net and 700 pieces of blanket.
Nnaji said the director-general of the agency, Mustapha Ahmed, approved the gesture, on behalf of the Federal Government, to ameliorate the problems encountered by the victims in the federal constituency, as a result of devastating floods, windstorm and erosion menaces that affected the Local Governments in 2020.
Receiving the items, a member representing Owerri Federal Constituency, Ikenna Elezieanya, commended the agency for the gesture, stressing that recipients would benefit from the donations.
