The Nigeria team were full of Confidence going into the knockout stages of the Africa Cup of Nation after a 2-0 win over Guinea-Bissau that kept their perfect run intact.

Almeria forward Sadiq Umar 56th minutes strike put the Eagles in front, before captain William Troost-Ekong doubled the lead in the 75th minutes after a long VAR review.

So far the Super Eagles are the only team to secure maximum points from the group stage.

Nigeria coach Austin Eguavoen made eight changes to his starting lineup, with their spot in the knockout stages already secured, premier League trio Troost-Ekong, Wilfried Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho were the only players to keep their place in the Starting line up.

Nigeria’s first chance fell to Sadiq Umar when he found himself clean through in the box. He went round the goalkeeper, but could not send the ball into the back of the net as the ball stuck under his feet and the Guinea-Bissau defence got back to clear.

Guinea-Bissau’s best chance came sixty fiftg minutes when  Jorginho force Francis Uzoho to make a big save from a well-struck free-kick.

Moses Simon came off the bench for Chidera Ejuke to produce a sensational running, beating three Guinea-Bissau defenders before firing a left-footed shot straight against the bar.

Simon who played for FC Nantes in France went close to getting on the scoresheet himself after another fantastic run as Guinea-Bissau players had no answer to his pace, but the angle proved too tight before he fired another effort into the side-netting in stoppage time.

Nigeria will face one of the best third placed teams in the last 16 on Sunday, as their search for a fourth AFCON title continues.
