Riders of motorcycle, popularly called Okada, have been given a grace of 7days to stop operation in the Owerri Metropolis.
Same was also issued to traders and commercial vehicles who have converted the green verge areas at Control Junction to a mini marketplace and motorpark.
Speaking with some of the occupants on Thursday, February 3, Francis Chukwu, Special Adviser/General Manager of Owerri Capital Development Authority (OCDA), buttressed the importance of a serene and clean environment and the need to give the state a befitting facelift.
While assuring them that the Prosperity Administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma is working with their interest at heart, he however noted that it was unfair the way government directives are not heeded.
Addressing the Okada riders, the OCDA boss emphasized that defaulters will be dealt with as their bikes would be impounded by the agency.
The Control Junction, a popular location, with the beautiful Assumpta Cathedral as landmark, serves as a general meeting point for travelers and had for years been known to be a melting point of activities in the day and active nightlife.
Presently, it is wearing a new look, with the area allowing for easy vehicular movements and reduced reports of harassments from touts.
