The National Broadcasting Commission, is reiterating its commitment to training broadcasters within the South East, in a bid to foster professionalism in the industry.
This was the stand of the NBC Zonal Director, Ijeoma Theo Obodo, as she addressed staff of TOAST FM, while on a visit to broadcasting stations in Owerri alongside her team composed of the State Coordinator, Pat Nwafor.
Obodo highlighted the need for adequate acquaintance and compliance with the National Broadcasting Code by broadcasting personnel to enable professional standards within the practice.
“The code presents the maximum standard for broadcasting. And it has to be applied in the spirit as well as in the letter… Anything we do or say, concerning this industry, we pull it out from here (the code)” she said.
In advising against carelessness in speech that is accompanied by the euphoria of the popularity of any broadcaster, the Zonal Coordinator added that “Broadcasting is a creative medium, characterized by professionalism. As far as one works here you are expected to be professional.”
She further cautioned against common breaches of the Broadcasting code, such as unverified news stories and sources, use of exaggeration, morally contrasting programmes, indecent dressing by broadcasters, opinionating by presenters, use of ‘Not To Be Broadcast (NTBB) contents, inappropriate advert contents, timing and placement, and much more.
Obodo appreciated the “young and vibrant team” of Toast FM, and promised motrainingngs, especially on political broadcasting against the forthcoming elections in the nation.
General Manager of Toast FM, Ify Onyegbule, who welcomed the team earlier, also expressed gratitude to the NBC team for its continuous efforts in building a reputable standard in the Broadcast industry.
