The President of the National Union of Textile Garment and Tailoring of Nigeria, Comrade John Adamu, has warned the Federal government against removing subsidy on petroleum products or increasing tariff on electricity as currently being speculated.

A report by the Daily Post said Adamu gave this warning in Minna at the 33rd National Education Conference in Minna, Niger State.

He argued that any move in that direction will surely spell doom for the almost collapsing Industries in the country and make life more difficult for Nigerians.

‘’Most Nigerians are already suffering under the hardship of high prices of foodstuffs and other goods and removing subsidy which means an increase in the price of petrol will further bring inflation on the goods which is not good for Nigerians now”, he noted.

The union president maintained that instead of bringing more hardship to the people, the federal government should ensure that the three Hydro Electricity Power Stations in Niger State are made to work optimally to guarantee stable electricity supply.

He further emphasized that, “No country can survive and industrialize without stable electricity. It is not to be available alone but it must be stable and affordable because the sale of the product is determined by the cost of the production so if it means subsidizing Power for the survival of the Industries, the government has a responsibility and should be seen to do that.”
